Children & Counseling

Parent’s may not feel like a child’s best friend, but they are their best advocate. You know your child better than anyone else, their likes, dislikes, how they drive everyone nuts and light up the world in their unique ways.

When we journey down the path of a child’s world, we need to remember two things: First, they are people, like everyone else. Second, they are developing, and often what feels annoying, is a part of becoming a “whole” person.

Sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes you don’t know how to get them to stop feeling overwhelmed or behaving overwhelmingly. In our office, we approach therapy from a few key questions:

  • How can we help your child feel safe?
  • How can we set the conditions for your child to attach?
  • What unspoken story is your child telling through their behaviors and play?

We explore these questions through free play, art, and tracking during the week. We work to build safety through parental coaching, relationship informed play, etc.

In our office, we look from a wholistic viewpoint, from the wellness of the whole family, to including  sensory processing concerns, seeing how nutrition can help, building primary attachment, sensed safety in the nervous system and then some behavior encouragement tips. We’ll talk about what’s working and not working, then structure sessions accordingly.

Call or email today if you want to chat more!  We’d be glad to have a deeper conversation about your child’s specific needs.
